Pay with a poem: cafes around the world to exchange coffee for poetry
Happy World Poetry Day! And here's a poem about writing poetry, no less, by Pablo Neruda. It's called "Poetry?" And it was at that age ... Poetry arrived in search of me. I don't know, I don't know where it came from, from winter or a river. I don't know how or when, no, they were not voices, they were not words, nor silence, but from a street I was summoned, frm the branches of night, abruptly from others, among violent fires or returning alone, there I was without a face and it touched me. I did not know what to say, my mouth had no way with names, my eyes were blind, and something started in my soul, fever or forgotten wings, and I made my own way, deciphering that fire, and I wrote the firts faint line, faint, without substance, pure nonsense, pure wisdom of someone who knows nothing, and suddenly I saw the heavens unfastened and open, planets, palpitating plantations, shadow perforated, riddled with arrows, fire and flowers, the winding night, the universe. And I, infitesimal being, drunk with the great starry void, likeness, image of mystery, for myself a pure part of the abyss, I wheeled with the stars, my heart broke loose on the wind. http://www.theguardian.com/books/booksblog/2015/mar/20/poetry-coffee-pay-with-a-poem-cafes-world-poetry-day
Did you all have a good Friday? We did! We had 20 weightlifters staying last night (they didn't pack light!) on the most sober day of the year. But don't worry, the Franciscan Well Easter Beer Festival is in full swing for the rest of the weekend. This now legendary gathering of local, national and international craft beer makers is an absolute must if you like trying new beers! Elizabeth fort are about to give a free guided tour, but are open 11-4 if you want to try out their intriguing free audio guides. Pop into either of the Paddywagon Day Tours Cork on Bridge Street or Washington Street if you are a stranger in our little town this weekend, for some helpful suggestions on things to see and do. Have fun and a very happy easter to you all.
Located close to the city center, at the heart of Shandon quarter. The lightest breakfast I've never had (toasts, tea, butter and mermelade), better bring your own food. Nice staff.
Worst night sleep I have ever had. Beds are terrible and you would be more comfortable sleeping on the ground! The other guests were so loud that at times it felt like they were in our room...avoid!!
Apart from one very helpful staff, everybody else seemed a little too impatient and even kind of rude. I guess that's the service you get in budget accomodations...
Coffee order from the staff...as the boss is shouting us one...see here for the response!
Another beautiful fun-filled week at Kinlay House Cork. Although we have endured typical Cork weather for the last few days the sun is finally back...smile emoticon, and its a good thing too as today is the beginning of the Cork Bicycle festival.
