Local businesses in the Caxton Street entertainment precinct are getting into the Liverpool spirit ahead of tomorrow night's blockbuster featuring the EPL giants and the Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium. From today (Thursday), Caxton Street will be renamed "Anfield Road" in recognition of Liverpool FC's famous home ground, while businesses in the street including elegant Ice works and the iconic Paddo Tavern will be decked out in red and offering English food, drinks and entertainment leading up to the game. President of the Caxton Street Development Association, Sarosh Mehta said today that having a world renowned team like Liverpool in Brisbane was an honour and would provide a significant local economic boost with thousands of interstate and international visitors expected for the game. "The least we can do is welcome them to Brisbane and make them feel at home, plus provide an opportunity for local football fans to experience the atmosphere to the leadup of an EPL game in their own backyard. A number of activities have been planned in conjunction with local businesses, Liverpool FC officials, Tourism and Events Queensland and Suncorp Stadium management, for Caxton Street over the next 48 hours. On Thursday at 5.30pm, following the conclusion of the unveiling of the 2015/16 Liverpool FC away kit in King George Square, fans will be heading to the Stadium for the team's open training session. Along the way, they will witness the unveiling of "Anfield Road" out the front of Casa Liverpool (Casablanca), which will be decked out in red featuring a duo covering Beatles songs and serving typical Liverpoolin soup scouse washed down with large variety of English Beer and Cider. That will be followed by Queensland's triumphant State of Origin coach, Mal Meninga, himself a massive Liverpool fan taking Reds stars, Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Sheyi Ojo on a visit to a number of the Caxton Street establishments including a Koala cuddle at Gambaro Hotel, enroute to the Stadium for the team's open training session.
